The "Golden Eye Diamond" is a 43.51-carat which reflects not only the fancy intense gold color of the diamond, but also the fire and brilliance with the rectangular brilliant cut of the diamond. It was believed to be the world's largest of its cut and color. Tom Moses, a senior vice president believes that it has come from the Kimberley area of South Africa , but the origin was not determined. As there are no blemishes or inclusions in the diamond, internally or externally under x10 magnification, the Golden Eye diamond is said to be a flawless diamond. Even under the naked eye there are no visual blemishes or inclusions and yet it is said to be "eye clear" in the diamond trade. The diamond has a length of 25.65 mm, a width of 18.06 mm and a height of 10.78 mm, which is equal to 1.01 in. X 0.71 in. X 0.42 in.
Under the GIA's nine-grade color grading system, the color of the diamond is two grades short of the maximum color grading fancy vivid. The Golden Eye diamond is sometimes referred as a canary yellow diamond. But Canary yellow is not a color grade in the GIA color grading system. It is just a loose term used in the diamond trade, and it may refer to any one of the top four color grades in the GIA color grading system which maybe of Fancy Dark Yellow, Fancy Intense Yellow, Fancy Deep Yellow and Fancy Vivid Yellow. The "Golden Eye Diamond" is characterized as a rare diamond by Steinmetz Group, who are creators of the world's finest diamonds.
HISTORY
The "Golden Eye" rough diamond which is said to be cut and polished in New York by the master cutters of Steinmetz Diamond Group. The existence of the "Golden Eye Diamond" was highlighted only in November 2006, when the diamond was seized from its owner, Alliance, Ohio millionaire Paul Monea, in an FBI undercover operation investigating car dealerships in Stark County suspecting of money laundering for South American drug cartels. Monea was unwittingly trapped in an FBI sting, where he agreed to sell the "Golden Eye" diamond, Mike Tyson's former Mansion for $19.5 million and a boat, to undercover agent G-Man "Geraldo" who was said to be a representative of a South American drug kingpin. Monea was arrested and conspiracy to commit money laundering and was sent to 13 years in prison in 2007. In the same year the "Golden Eye" diamond was confiscated by a district court judge. And from then the diamond became the property of the United States Government. The acquirement of the diamond by the U.S. Marshals Service was delayed until March 2011 in finding out the legal claims in respect of ownership or ownership interest in the diamond at a Federal Court. When the Federal judge ordered the final forfeiture of the diamond, which was handed over to the U.S. Marshal's Service, the body which was responsible for selling ill-gotten gains seized from criminals.
